Whale Watching Cruises
(December through March)
San Diego is among the best places in California to experience the annual migration of gray whales along the coast. Beginning in mid-December, these gentle giants pass by our coast on their travels from the frigid Arctic waters to the warm, sheltered lagoons of Baja California. There some will mate, others give birth, and all will take advantage of the plentiful food sources. After some R & R in the warm waters, the whales and their new calves head back north, passing our shores again in March.

Although the whales swim relatively close to shore, your best chance for a whale sighting is from the close-up, comfortable vantage of a ship's deck. Cruises are available on state-of-the-art equipped fishing boats as well as on private sailing yachts. Captains and crew are experienced in locating these mammals for your viewing while taking care not to disturb their migration.
Whatever the size of your group there is a whale watching cruise perfect for you. Larger groups can take advantage of their own private charter, while smaller groups may want to join a commercial whale watching cruise.
Most boats are equipped with a galley or snack bar. Don't forget your camera and binoculars!
